AutoCAD exercise: a round table and chairs
Draw a round table with six chairs in AutoCAD: one chair, then a polar array round the table's centre, and its dimensions, step by step. Free online.
Draw a round table of 120 with six chairs, in centimetres: each chair a seat 44 by 40 with corners rounded to 4 and a back 8 deep, its front 8 from the table's edge. Draw one chair above the table and let a polar array place all six. The drawing's dimension scale is set for centimetres.

The drawing
Step by step
The engine draws each step and writes its history as you would type it: the prompts in AutoCAD 2027's order, with the same option letters. After a command's first point, a typed point is measured from the last one, as dynamic input measures it, and the history writes it with @; # measures from the origin.
1. Draw the table
On the Outline layer, CIRCLE at 0,0, Diameter 120.
- Command: CIRCLE
- Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: 0,0
- Specify radius of circle or [Diameter]: D
- Specify diameter of circle: 120
2. Draw a chair
The seat, above the table: RECTANG with a Fillet of 4, from -22,68 to 44,40 further on. Then the back, with the fillet set back to 0, from -22,108 to 44,8 further on. RECTANG keeps its fillet radius until you change it.
- Command: RECTANG
- Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: F
- Specify fillet radius for rectangles <0.00>: 4
- Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: -22,68
- Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: @44,40
- Command: RECTANG
- Current rectangle modes: Fillet=4.00
- Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: F
- Specify fillet radius for rectangles <4.00>: 0
- Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: -22,108
- Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: @44,8
3. Array the chairs
ARRAYPOLAR: pick the seat and the back, press Enter, give the table's centre, 0,0, then Items, 6. Each chair turns as it is placed, so all six face the table.
- Command: ARRAYPOLAR
- Select objects: 1 found
- Select objects: 1 found, 2 total
- Select objects:
- Type = Polar Associative = Yes
- Specify center point of array: 0,0
- Select grip to edit array or [ASsociative/Items/Angle between/Fill angle/ROTate items/eXit]<eXit>: I
- Enter number of items in array <6>: 6
- Select grip to edit array or [ASsociative/Items/Angle between/Fill angle/ROTate items/eXit]<eXit>: X
4. Dimension it
On Dimensions, DIMDIAMETER on the table, placed inside, and DIMLINEAR for the top chair's width, 44, and its depth with the back, 48.
- Command: DIMDIAMETER
- Select arc or circle:
- Dimension text = 120
- Specify dimension line location or [Text/Angle]:
- Command: DIMLINEAR
- Specify first extension line origin or <select object>: -22,116
- Specify second extension line origin: @44,0
- Non-associative dimension created.
- Specify dimension line location or [Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
- Dimension text = 44
- Command: DIMLINEAR
- Specify first extension line origin or <select object>: -22,68
- Specify second extension line origin: @0,48
- Non-associative dimension created.
- Specify dimension line location or [Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
- Dimension text = 48
